Design

Modern or neoclassical: which style suits a townhouse?

Comparing aesthetics, design and build cost, and suitability of Vietnam’s two most popular residential styles.

The two styles Vietnamese homeowners choose most often are modern and neoclassical. Each has its own beauty — and its own cost profile.

Modern

  • Clean lines, clear massing, generous glazing
  • Faster and simpler to build, cost-efficient
  • GVG design fee: 100,000 VND/m²

Neoclassical

  • Mouldings, reliefs and columns for a stately presence
  • Requires highly skilled craftsmen and longer finishing time
  • GVG design fee: 150,000 VND/m²

Classical château

For villas and mansions with elaborate detailing. Design fee 200,000 VND/m².

An architect’s advice

On narrow townhouse lots (4–6 m frontage), modern or modern-Mediterranean usually makes the best use of space. On wide plots and villas, neoclassical can truly shine.
